Jericho was a nice mix of combining elements of things I've done before like a wolf head and tail with new things like antlers and hooves! Jericho's owner was also the 2nd person to ever request an anthro plush quote from me and commissioned me for a previous plush, Pariah, in my very first round of commissions. So I was happy to take on the commission! Jericho is a beautiful mix of browns. Even though his color transitions are quite jagged in the reference, we decided to make them smooth with only a few triangles as they are meant to represent that he is fluffy. So rather than do applique I decided to do color blocking, which I don't get to do very often! All his pattern pieces cut out! It's always kind of mind blowing that a pile of fabric like this can make an entire plush. His main body pieces sewn together. My client wanted to experiment with making the bottom of his legs fur instead of minky to give an extra fluffy look. So we tried it out! Despite shaving the top of the fur, the transition is too "hard". The fur sticks out too much from the minky and looks like a fuzzy boot. So we decided to just run faux fur in the back seam of the leg instead! The arms sewn together with claws. The claws are sewn by my embroidery machine in a fraction of the amount of time it would take me to sew them, and much cleaner as well. They are machine sewn into the hands via darts. And the darts make the hand nice and shapely! I decided to do applique for his tail to preserve the jagged transitions to give it the fluffy appearance! Sewing in each of these triangles would have been a nightmare. I ran two eye tests before embroidering the final face. His teeth are made from vinyl fabric to give it a realistic toothy look! Patterning the color transition on the forehead gusset. Even partially sewn he looks cute! I decided to make the side head fluff minky instead of fur to give some further variety in the type of fluff he has, since his chest and ear fluff are faux fur. I originally wanted to use a plastic safety nose but there wasn't one that fit his size and style. So I decided to sew one out of suede instead. I had some difficulty patterning it, as I've never done a 3D nose like this before. This one came out too big. Better! My first attempt at his ears used waaay too much fur. These were the second ones. They were much too long, but luckily that only requires trimming the bottom and not a total redo! These are juuust right. I love the ear fluff. "Many thoughts, body empty" First attempt at his antlers. They are a single 2D pattern piece with wire run through to get the curled shape. I used his reference shape for these, but they don't quite look right from the front. So I decided to reference an alternate art piece by his owner, which is one of the reasons why I request other art besides references during the quote process! "It's not a phase, mom!" Patterning his hooves. The final ones would be made out of suede to use another texture in this plush. It also matches his nose! FLOP One of the fun things about machine sewing everything is getting pictures like this! Stuffed, pre clean-up and handsewing. I just think they look so cute in this pose. I made Jericho's flannel shirt which was very straightforward. His jeans are Build A Bear. I decided to add his t-shirt as a gift, as I had a spare white BaB shirt lying around and it just needed to be embroidered. Jericho in the above image is a 2020 mood! Jericho went so smoothly and it was so much fun to make him! I decided all my plush from now on need to take a picture together with Shifty! Shifty getting head pats!! Also, NEW LOGO! WOO! You can watch a timelapse of sewing Jericho above!
