I felt like I needed a few days "off" after a plush as intense as Peachy, so I decided to make a cool down plush of my mascot, Shifty! I used my old floppy Neko Atsume pattern. With the pattern already complete, it was just a matter of doing the applique. I started with her body. Things went well until I broke the cardinal rule of leaving your embroidery machine alone while stitching and well... Let's just say this is why you don't. (Language warning, but it was just too funny not to include) This actually ripped my hoop apart! The top screw came off and my hoop was only held together by the bottom screw. Luckily, I was able to fix it. In my haste to redo it, I accidentally grabbed camel minky instead of latte minky, and didn't realize I used the wrong fabric until the next day since they're so close in color! So, third time's the charm I guess. Her face, luckily, went well on the first try (after testing her eyes and mouth a few times). I love this pattern because I get to see her little toe beans from above! It's also super easy to sew, with everything machine sewn on, Her wings have layers of felt and quilt batting to give them strength to stand on their own. I also used embroidery floss to give the handmade stitched look. I wanted her wings to be interchangeable in case I ever felt like making different ones. So they attach via magnets! Shifty has polypellets in her legs and stomach to give her a nice weight. Believe it or not, this is the first plush I've made for myself in my near 10 years of plush making. I always see the flaws in my work instead of the positive, so I've never had the desire to keep my own plush. But I love Shifty so much that she is an exception! You can watch a timelapse video of making her below!
